Celta Vigo have reportedly launched an onslaught for redundant Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
The 28-year-old has been on MUFC’s books since making the move from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023.
The Turkish international spent his first two campaigns serving as Andre Onana’s understudy before playing a similar role behind Senne Lammens last season.
Celta Vigo want Altay Bayindir on loan
Due to his backup status, Bayindir only made limited appearances during his three years at Old Trafford. The highlight of his United spell has arguably been his FA Cup heroics against Arsenal at the Emirates in January 2025, with Mikel Arteta hailing his ‘absolutely outstanding’ performance.
| Bayindir’s Man Utd Stats | Appearances | Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets |
| 2023/24 | 1 | 2 | 0 |
| 2024/25 | 10 | 18 | 3 |
| 2025/26 | 6 | 11 | 0 |
| Total | 17 | 31 | 3 |
However, Man Utd have now recruited a new second-choice goalkeeper in Karl Darlow, who signed as a free agent after seeing out his Leeds United contract. 40-year-old Tom Heaton will continue to serve as a third option in the department, making Bayindir surplus to requirements.
Therefore, Man Utd have been awaiting offers for the Bursa native, who has been placed on the transfer list.
Bayindir was a part of the matchday squad that travelled to Stockholm for the friendly against Atletico Madrid, but he’s not expected to take part in the contest.
On Saturday afternoon, the Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler revealed that Celta Vigo are preparing to make a move for the unwanted United shot-stopper.
“Man Utd sources confirm interest from Celta Vigo in taking keeper Altay Bayindir on loan this season but say the deal isn’t done yet,” posted Wheeler on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Bayindir’s on the bench against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm today with Tom Heaton starting in goal.”

This news was also confirmed by BBC journalist Simon Stone, who revealed that the LaLiga club is hoping to bring Bayindir to the club on an initial loan deal.
“Celta Vigo keen on Man Utd keeper Altay Bayindir, who is in today’s squad but did a long training session pre-match,” explained the MUFC correspondent on X.
“No deal yet. Others are also in for him.”

Why it is past time for Bayindir to leave Man United
Between 2023 and 2025, Bayindir had a golden opportunity to clinch a starting role, with Onana committing shocking howlers on a recurring basis.
And yet, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim kept faith in the struggling Cameroonian, at least until the start of the previous campaign.
But with United’s goal now guarded by the reliable Lammens, Bayindir’s chances of earning a prominent role were left in tatters.
At the age of 28, the Turk would do well to find himself a starting berth elsewhere, while Man Utd feel they have a more trusted backup in the experienced Darlow, who is coming off a solid campaign at Elland Road.
