SEATTLE — The Patriots elevated two players from their practice squad for Wednesday’s NFL season opener against the Seahawks.
The team elevated running back Lan Larison and punter Mitch Mishnowsky.
Larison helps fill in for running back TreVeyon Henderson, who was ruled out Tuesday with an ankle injury. The Patriots needed to elevate Wishnowsky to punt since Bryce Baringer is currently on injured reserve.
Larison, 24, entered the NFL with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis in 2025. He missed his entire rookie season with an injury and returned to the squad this spring. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound ball-carrier was waived Aug. 30 as part of the Patriots’ roster cuts. He was signed to the practice squad the next day.
Wishnowsky, 34, has been in the NFL since 2019. He was selected by the 49ers in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Utah. The Australian native also punted at Santa Barbara City College.
The former Australian rules football player punted for the 49ers for six seasons. He spent 2025 with the Commanders, and the Bills, who cut him on Aug. 29. Wishnowsky signed to the Patriots’ practice squad on Aug. 31.
Larison will fill in at running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner. Stevenson is expected to take on the bulk of running back duties. Kiner was acquired from the Cardinals in a trade on Aug. 29 in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick. The Patriots dealt for Kiner when no running backs competing for the No. 3 spot on the roster behind Stevenson and Henderson stood out in training camp after Terrell Jennings went down with an injury.
The Patriots still have Hassan Haskins on their practice squad and Myles Montgomery on injured reserve. They released JaMycal Hasty and Jam Miller during roster cuts.
Larison finished his college career with 641 carries for 3,634 yards and 41 touchdowns. He added 127 receptions for 1,626 yards with 10 touchdowns, completed 9-of-19 passes for 97 yards with a touchdown and interception, returned 49 kicks for 1,246 yards and a touchdown and one punt for no gain and recorded six tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery.
