Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has caught some flak from fans over her decision to miss the FIBA World Cup in Berlin.
The four-time MVP and reigning WNBA champion is among the major stars sitting out the tournament because of lingering back issues after playing through an injury before the FIBA break.
While Team USA competes for another World Cup championship, some fans have questioned Wilson’s decision to sit out.
Fuel was only added to the fire when Wilson was recently spotted at a J. Cole concert with her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo.

Some fans on social media voiced their displeasure, believing Wilson’s decision to sit out the tournament looked worse after she was spotted at the concert, and they also compared her to Caitlin Clark, who is currently overseas with Team USA.
She made her debut for the senior national team in a major international competition at the 2018 World Cup. Since then, she has established herself as one of the most important players in the USA Basketball program.
Despite her absence, Team USA hasn’t missed a step. They are currently up 3-0 in their quarterfinal matchup against Hungary on Thursday.
However, her absence in the 2026 World Cup could give other young stars a chance to shine on the international stage, including Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese, who have pushed Team USA to the quarterfinals.
Other established stars like Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier have been integral to the Team USA’s run at this year’s FIBA World Cup and have also shone.
Team USA has also received a big boost from Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray, who have being crucial at times down the stretch.
