Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is on the verge of joining Celta Vigo on a season-long loan deal, according to Spanish outlet AS (page 15).
The Turkey international has been with the Red Devils for the past three seasons and looks set to pursue a new challenge after the recent arrival of Karl Darlow.
Darlow was signed on a free transfer after a fine campaign at Leeds United, and the 35-year-old is expected to be Senne Lammens’ deputy next term.
AS now reveal that Bayindir is poised to land in Vigo in the coming hours. He will undergo his medical with Celta before securing a season-long loan move.
United could have sold Bayindir permanently
The former Fenerbahce man was touted to join Besiktas at the beginning of the year, but United declined the proposal as they could not find a suitable successor.
Besiktas were fancied to return for the shot-stopper this summer, but that has not materialised. Bayindir is now on the verge of securing a temporary switch to Celta.
Trabzonspor recently re-signed goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan from United for a second straight season. The Turkish outfit agreed to cover his entire annual wages.
Bayindir presently earns £35,000 per week at United, and Celta have probably agreed to do the same.
The 28-year-old’s contract expires in June next year, but the Red Devils have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months by triggering an extension clause.
Given his reduced role in recent years, United could release him on a free transfer next summer.
