The 2026 NFL regular season kicks off tonight with a primetime matchup between the two participants of Super Bowl LX, the champion Seattle Seahawks and their opponents, the New England Patriots. This coming Sunday will be the first full slate of games this fall. The Cincinnati Bengals will begin their season at home against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As both teams prepare to compete for a season-opening victory, Bucs linebacker Alex Anzalone shared something Bengals fans are well aware of. Tampa Bay beat reporter River Wells shared Anzalone's thoughts on Burrow via X, formerly Twitter.
“Bucs LB Alex Anzalone says that Joe Burrow's accuracy and ability to extend plays make him elite,” posted Wells Wednesday afternoon.\
The first overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, Burrow has since grown into one of the league's top signal callers. After leading the Bengals to an AFC title and Super Bowl berth in 2021, the ex-LSU star has looked to get back to the big game. Injuries and other factors, including a suspect defense at times, have kept Cincinnati from getting back to the season's final matchup. Will a path back begin with a win over the Buccaneers Sunday afternoon?
Tampa Bay will look to forge their own path back to the Super Bowl as well. The Buccaneers have won two titles, most recently after the 2020 season, the campaign before the Bengals made it to Los Angeles. With their own signal caller, Baker Mayfield, now locked in with a fresh contract extension, Anzalone and his defensive teammates will look to stop Burrow and what could be a high-powered Cincinnati attack once again. Will they be able to? Or will Burrow once again lead a young and hungry roster back towards postseason glory? Come Sunday, the NFL will watch with keen interest.
