Patrick Mahomes is gearing up for a comeback to the gridiron, but that’s not the only big win the Kansas City Chiefs QB is stacking up.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday there’s a strong chance Mahomes gets the start in the Week 1 matchup, setting the stage for his return roughly nine months after tearing his ACL and LCL in his left knee. Reid, however, isn’t ready to lock it in just yet, leaving the door open for a change if Mahomes suffers an unexpected setback before Monday night.
Patrick Mahomes’ Latest Oakley Drop Is All About the Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes is looking ahead to the new NFL season through the lens of his very own Oakley sunglasses. The performance eyewear giant, which has featured Mahomes in several campaigns since partnering with him in 2024, has now dropped the Patrick Mahomes Signature Series. Oakley took to Instagram to unveil the new collection, and there’s plenty of Chiefs flavor baked into the designs. The lineup takes cues from some of Mahomes’ favorite elements from previous drops, including polished black finishes, gold detailing, and pops of Chiefs red. At the heart of the collection is the Permian, featuring a Black Ink frame, matte clear pad-print stems, and an anodized red icon.
The Permian also comes with Prizm Ruby lenses, which use a reddish tint to boost contrast and color for everyday outdoor use. In other words, this one is built more for the daily grind than a specific sport, unlike Oakley’s Prizm Golf or cycling-focused Prizm Road lenses. Mahomes’ Sutro Lite Sweep and Resistor Sweep get a Dark Galaxy frame with Trans Black Ink stems and Prizm Black lenses. The lifestyle-focused shades are finished off with a Chiefs Red icon and polished gold icon deco plate.
All three styles come with black nose pads and ear socks, adding a little extra comfort to the drip. And Oakley didn’t stop at the shades. The collection comes packaged in a matte black sleeve with gold Oakley foil, along with a custom microfiber bag featuring both Oakley and Mahomes’ logos. The Patrick Mahomes Signature Series is available online now, with prices starting at roughly $213.
The timing of the drop is no accident.
Oakley’s Patrick Mahomes Signature Series launch is tied to the 2026 NFL Kickoff Game on Wednesday, September 9, when the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots. Mahomes and the Chiefs, meanwhile, have their own primetime appointment waiting in the wings. Kansas City opens its season on Monday Night Football against the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos have won the Chiefs’ last two regular-season meetings, but Kansas City remains favored heading into Monday night. For Mahomes, though, the biggest storyline is obvious: getting back under center. The Chiefs QB has been working toward a Week 1 return ever since suffering torn ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee last season. He underwent surgery in December and has made it his mission throughout the offseason to be ready when the games start counting again. Mahomes didn’t take a single preseason snap, but he hasn’t exactly been taking it easy. Since being cleared for full football activities in late July, the three-time Super Bowl champion has been a regular participant at Chiefs practices throughout training camp.
Now, with Week 1 around the corner, Mahomes is getting closer to taking the field again — and apparently doing it with a fresh pair of shades to match.
