At the start of the NFL season, every commentator across the country has a Super Bowl pick. Most of them are not all that notable. However, given the hot streak Peter Schrager had a few years ago in correctly predicting Super Bowl matchups, it feels like his might still be worth a mention. Schrager called five straight Super Bowl winners from 2020–2024, and even nailed the matchup of Super Bowl LVIII, picking the Kansas City Chiefs over the San Francisco 49ers. While he’s now missed two years straight, that streak of correct predictions makes hearing him out for this season worth the few minutes it will take. So, who does Schrager have this year? “Let’s start off in the NFC. It’s two teams this year to me. It’s Seahawks or it’s Rams,” Schrager said on his new show The Schrager Hour. “Seahawks come in with a chip on their shoulder that they didn’t enjoy this offseason of being showered in love like everyone else because the Rams kind of hijacked it. Everyone talking about, ‘The Rams bringing in this, bringing in that.’ We did a segment on Get Up that was the Rams vs. the field. I nearly fell off my chair because of how absurd that is considering a team in their own division beat them two out of three games and won a Super Bowl.” But despite that long wind up, Schrager went with the chalk. “They’re going to split with the Rams in the regular season. These two teams are going to play in the NFC Championship Game, a rematch of last year. It’s going to be in L.A., and I’ve got the Los Angeles Rams winning the NFC.” Schrager pointed to coach Sean McVay and the addition of Kliff Kingsbury to the staff as reasons he’s backing the Rams. As for his prediction in the AFC, Schrager channeled the NBA playoffs. “The New York Knicks had the same coach for many years and kept on running into a wall when it mattered most. That coach was Tom Thibodeau. Abruptly gets fired, and they hire Mike Brown, a fresh new voice to get them over the hump. Based on the New York Knicks’ success, and based on what the New York Knicks were able to do with a fresh voice and the same group of guys getting them over the hump, I turn to the Baltimore Ravens as my AFC Championship team.” This was a bit of a cheeky move, as his build up could also have been referring to the Buffalo Bills, who moved on from Sean McDermott in the offseason. In the final matchup, Schrager has the Rams over the Ravens. An annual tradition unlike any other. After a summer of speaking to and seeing everyone, my Super Bowl pick is officially in. We’ll find out by February if it was this year.
