Thomas Dulorme says he had no fear of illegal punches or even dying when he stepped into the ring against Terrel Williams three years after Williams’ devastating fight with Prichard Colón. Dulorme has opened up exclusively to World Boxing News about the mentality he carried into his August 2018 fight with Williams, who was still undefeated at the time. By then, the circumstances surrounding Williams’ October 2015 fight with Colón were well known throughout boxing. Colón suffered a brain bleed following the contest in Fairfax, Virginia, ending his career and leaving him requiring round-the-clock care for the remainder of his life. Williams subsequently returned to boxing and remained unbeaten before eventually being matched with Dulorme. Despite everything that had happened three years earlier, Dulorme says concerns about illegal punches never entered his mind. Dulorme Had No Fear “I wasn’t worried at all when I fought Williams. I simply wanted to get in the ring, beat him, take away his undefeated record, and go home. I was never afraid of an illegal punch. I was never afraid of dying either. I’m a fighter. I was born for this.” Dulorme did exactly what he had set out to do. The Puerto Rican defeated Williams by unanimous decision over ten rounds, becoming the first professional fighter to take his unbeaten record. His comments come following Colón’s death at the age of 33 and Dulorme’s decision to speak publicly about the tragedy for the first time. In a separate part of his exclusive interview with WBN, Dulorme revealed how deeply Colón’s death affected him and addressed the responsibilities of Williams and referee Joe Cooper during Colón’s final fight. Fighting Remains in His Blood Eight years after facing Williams, that mentality has not disappeared. Asked whether he could ever fight again, Dulorme told WBN that stepping inside the ring remains part of who he is. “I’m a fighter, and fighting will always be in my blood and in my DNA. I love being the man who steps into the ring to face another man, regardless of his name or who he is. When I step into that ring, I give everything I have and I come to fight. That part of me will never disappear.” For a fighter who wanted Williams’ undefeated record, fear was never part of the equation.
