Everton could reportedly make contact over a possible move for Mauro Icardi in the coming days as David Moyes continues to consider the free-agent market.
The Argentine striker’s name has gathered momentum since the transfer window closed, with Everton initially offered the chance to sign the 33-year-old before a separate report suggested he was being considered by the club. Now there has been another development.
Everton could make Icardi contact
Journalist Christian Vaquero reported on Tuesday that Icardi remains a free agent and Everton “could initiate contacts in the coming days”. There is an important caveat.
Vaquero also states that there have not yet been any talks between Icardi and Everton, so this remains some way from suggestions that a deal is close.
Even so, it follows Tuesday’s report that Everton are considering Icardi after the former Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain striker was initially offered to the Toffees.
So the story has moved, albeit slowly. Everton’s options are beginning to narrow, as we noted in our latest look at the free-agent striker market, while Thierno Barry remains Moyes’ only recognised senior No.9. Icardi is still some way from becoming an Everton player.
But if the latest report proves accurate, we may soon find out whether Everton’s interest goes any further than considering him as an option.
