TreVeyon Henderson is battling an ankle injury, and the former second-round pick will miss the first game of his second season, as the team has already ruled him out for Week 1. The running back has not practiced in two weeks, and New England begins their season on Wednesday night against the Seattle Seahawks in what should be an exciting Super Bowl rematch. This injury is something of a surprise for TreVeyon Henderson, as the running back didn’t miss a single contest during his rookie season. Selected with the 39th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product showed plenty of promise throughout his rookie season. Appearing in all 17 games while making four starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 911 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 180 attempts. While he wasn’t the most consistent player in the league, he had a knack for creating big plays and being impossible to catch in the open field. TreVeyon Henderson Injury Update: Patriots RB OUT Ankle Injury While the Patriots are a better team with TreVeyon Henderson on the field, he wouldn’t be the starting running back even if he were healthy. ESPN’s Mike Reiss recently said that “Stevenson would have been the clear-cut starter regardless,” as he’s far more effective in pass protection and can consistently read blocks and make the right decision behind the offensive line. While Henderson is the more explosive player, he wouldn’t have entered the season as anything more than a complementary player. All this is to say that if you drafted Henderson in fantasy football, you shouldn’t start him. Aside from Stevenson, the only other running back on the roster is Corey Kiner. A Cincinnati product, Kiner entered the league as an undrafted free agent in the 2025 NFL Draft and spent the previous season bouncing around practice squads. He ultimately appeared in four games for the Arizona Cardinals and recorded 58 yards on 12 rushing attempts.
