A reunion at Laguna Seca is about to take place that will be hard to replicate. During the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, all six living American world champions of the 500cc class will come together on the same circuit to celebrate one of the most fascinating eras in the history of the World Motorcycle Championship.
Kenny Roberts, Freddie Spencer, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, and Kenny Roberts Jr. will be featured on August 14 and 15 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, where they will also perform some demonstration laps on the bikes that helped transform them into true icons of motorcycling.
An event with a strong symbolic value: the six riders collectively won 14 of the 23 world titles of the 500cc class awarded between 1978 and 2000, representing the golden era of the United States in the premier motorcycle championship. Moreover, all of them have raced at least once on the Californian track.
Two Days with the Legends
The program includes several moments dedicated to enthusiasts. The champions will take to the track for some demonstration laps on Friday at 3:45 PM and on Saturday at 2:05 PM, while on Saturday there is a scheduled autograph session from 10:00 AM to 10:40 AM.
Also on Saturday, from 3:15 PM to 3:55 PM, Roberts, Spencer, Lawson, Rainey, Schwantz, and Roberts Jr. will be the stars of a talk on the paddock stage, during which they will recount episodes, rivalries, and behind-the-scenes stories from an unforgettable period of the World Championship.
“Having these six world champions all together at Laguna Seca on the bikes that made them legendary is something fans will remember for a long time,” explained Bruce Canepa of Friends of Laguna Seca, emphasizing how the event represents an exceptional opportunity for those who experienced that era firsthand.
For the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, this marks a small historical shift: for the first time in the 52-year history of the event, motorcycles will have a central role in the program.
Laguna Seca Also Celebrates Japanese Motorsport
The reunion of the six champions will be part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion 2026 schedule, taking place from August 12 to 15. This year's edition will be dedicated to Japanese motorsport and will feature brands that have written significant pages in the history of racing, including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, and Mitsubishi.
However, for one weekend, much of the focus will inevitably be on those six suits and six names that, from the late 1970s to the early 2000s, transformed the United States into the reference nation of the 500cc class.
And the chosen location to reunite them couldn’t be more fitting: Laguna Seca, including the Corkscrew, will once again serve as the stage for a generation that has permanently marked the history of the World Motorcycle Championship.
