Stoke and Valencia's paths crossed in the 2011/12 Europa League and the Spanish club was invited back to the Potteries as the opposition for Mark Robins to complete his summer warm up. The real thing, or the Carabao Cup first round at least, starts next weekend with a home tie against Oldham Athletic. Stoke won 1-0 at home against Everton on Tuesday night with a goal from young midfielder Gabriel Kelly but Robins had to adjust plans to give players extended run-outs because they had been stuck in Vienna airport for 16 hours on Sunday. They won two games, with different XIs over 70 minutes, against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and drew a friendly with Crewe. Carlos Corberan's Valencia arrive having beaten Eldense and Derby County and lost to Petro de Luanda and Castellon in their friendlies so far. They finished ninth in La Liga last season. Key Events Robins: "I'm seeing bits that will stand us in good stead. There are some really good signs out of possession and some really good signs in possession. There is still a long way to go, it's early days." Robins: "We've changed everything around and it's working quite well. We're looking at trying to improve on last season's record in terms of injuries and hopefully we can do that. I'm happy I've got to say. Everything that is in place looks good and feels good and we'll keep working towards improving the team and the people in it." Robins: "I am - but there are times when you win every game in pre-season and there are times when you lose them all and it doesn't necessarily have a bearing on anything. What it can do is show where you're at with the work you're doing and I think they're taking that on board pretty well. They're good lads, they've worked hard and it's over to the start of the cup next weekend." Robins: "What is bonding? Shared experience whether they are good or bad. They certainly bonded last Sunday through Monday - and that was after the week they had in Austria, which was a good week. I think you can see a good togetherness but also a decent team that's being built. If we can work like that then we've got a good chance because we've got some players with threat." Robins: "It was a really good performance, I think especially in the second half. Yes, they are a good team and if you give ttem time the rotations hurt you and that's what happened in the first half. Also we weren't aggressive enough but when we won the ball back in good positions we turned the ball over almost immediately which meant we spent a lot of the first half out of possession. "The second half was totally opposite. I thought we were really good, more aggressive, got on the ball, moved it pretty well, some high intensity work went on which is what I wanted right from the start of the game. "There were 90 minutes for a lot, 75 for some and a draw that could have quite easily been a win." More applause as the final whistle goes. A decent performanec from Stoke against a team that finished ninth in La Liga last season. Bosun Lawal has been caught in an off th eball incident with Jesus Vazquez. There were arms windmilling and teammates rushing to get involved. Both are shown a yellow card, which is probably sensible refereeing from Tom Reeves. Gibson replaces Graham, who's played well again. A burst of energy from Stoke. Thomas has a shot blocked before Junho's effort is deflected over for a corner. Ingelsson gave Dani Raba a furious piece of his mind after the Valencia forward folded over too easily in hope of winning a soft penalty. Whatever Raba said in defence of himself, he earned a hug from Ingelsson in acceptance. Soumare replaces Seko, Junho replaces Rigo. That's a devilish cross from Thomas and it's Ben Wilmot who is sneaking into the area to try to meet it, released from his right-back cage. He wasn't far away and that would have been a beauty. Manhoef gets in down the right again and his cross finds Rigo to poke at goal. It isn't a convincing shot and it bubbles wide of the left post. Sorba Thomas's left footed cross picks out Manhoef at the back post. Manhoef has time to think about his header before he plants it onto the roof of the net. A long searching pass from Ingelsson releases Manhoef down the right. Manhoef is swarmed but backs himself to go alone, although he didn't have that many choices. He's snaffled out of it in the end. Ingelsson sneaks into the box to get on the end of a cross from the right but he can't act decisively enough when he controls on the penalty spot. It's a lovely dink behind the Valencia defence by Bosun Lawal and Cisse is away into a one-on-one. Cisse needs more composure and he can't beat the keeper. That goal is going down as a Miguel Monferrer own goal. Manhoef did well down the right and Cisse was putting Monferrer and the keeper under pressure. Stoke are level! It's forced in at the back post. Filip Ugrinic is testing the patience fo the home fans. Bizarrely he's allowed to sit down in the centre circle for a minute or two having a break after he's been given a soft free-kick for an alleged foul by Ingelsson. 6,803 Another chance spills out to Seko on the edge of the box but he can't keep his head over it and his shot goes into the Boothen. It has been a kit clash. Stoke are returning in their camouflage second strip. Stoke subs are warming up as if they will swap all 11 players at some stage during the second-half. They are all in their training kit rather than the home kit though. Polite applause after a pretty competitive half. Well worked goal from Valencia and Stoke have had half chances, working the ball into the area without being able to act quickly enough when they get there. Their best fell to Sorba Thomas in the opening minute, through in a one-on-one but scuffing a shot into the keeper. Cisse again pounces to get on the ball in the final third but he can't make use of it quickly enough when he does so. Rigo tries to help but piles a shot into a defender to win a throw. Ingelsson whips a throw over and it's cleared out to Manhoef to try his luck - a shot over the bar from 20 yards. Groans of disapproval from the home fans when Ugrinic fouls Bocat and then kicks the ball away after the free-kick is given against him. It's not a bad delivery from the left and it looks like Ingelsson got the touch in the box that whistled a header towards goal. Bosun Lawal made light work of a tackle on Sato and he spots Dimitrievski off his line. He goes for a Charlie Adam from the half-way line but the keeper wheels back to take a comfortable catch.
