Veteran NBA guard Brandon Knight has again been linked to the Perth Wildcats, and after the two parties were connected last season, the chances of a deal now appear significantly higher. During HoopsFest in NBL26, the Wildcats were racing against the January 16 transfer deadline as they explored the possibility of bringing in a much-needed point guard. At the time, Fox Sports Australia linked Knight to the Wildcats as a potential Injury Replacement Player for then-injured import David Duke Jr, who was recovering from an elbow injury sustained against the Adelaide 36ers on December 28. Fox Sports Australia contacted Knight’s agent, Joel Bell of Bell Management International, at the time, but he declined to comment on any discussions between Perth and his client. Ultimately, the deadline came and went, with the Wildcats opting not to bring Knight to the NBL. Fast forward to the present and, with just 10 days remaining until the season opener, Knight’s name is once again in the mix in Perth. The Wildcats are again being linked with the former NBA guard, with a potential deal adding another major name to an NBL season already stacked with NBA talent and experience. Knight, now 34, boasts a 10-year NBA career spanning 489 games after being selected eighth overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2011 NBA Draft. He would go on to play for the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks, with his best season coming in 2015-16 with Phoenix. Across 52 games that season, Knight averaged 19.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Since departing the Mavericks in 2022, Knight has continued his career overseas, spending time in Puerto Rico as well as Greece. Most recently, he suited up for Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico, the same club that featured Adelaide 36ers superstar Bryce Cotton and South East Melbourne Phoenix head coach Josh King last season. Across 20 appearances, Knight averaged 18.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 47.0% from the field, showing he can still produce at a high level despite being several years removed from the NBA. The veteran guard is also no stranger to Perth, having previously travelled to Western Australia as a coach and mentor for the Basketball Without Borders program during the inaugural HoopsFest in 2024. Now, two years after that visit and months after a potential move failed to materialise, Knight could finally find himself back in Perth, this time wearing a Wildcats jersey.
