It remains to be seen whether the forward will be ready to make Neil McCann’s squad for the Premier Sports Cup clash with rivals Ayr United at Rugby Park, but he is expected to return to full training with his teammates this week. Speaking to the print press away from the cameras, the manager revealed Daniels is ahead of the initial timeframe for his recovery despite suffering a setback a few weeks ago. Despite his lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Suriname international has remained a visible presence around the first-team squad and has been an ever-present on matchdays to support his teammates throughout his rehabilitation. That has continued into the new campaign, including Killie’s Premier Sports Cup matches at their temporary Beechwood Park home, with the striker appearing to remain a big character around the dressing room despite being unable to contribute on the pitch. His return will give McCann another option in a forward area where Killie already have Joe Hugill, Tyreece John-Jules and Ieuan Owen to call upon. At 6ft 3in, Daniels offers a different dimension to those already available to the manager and, after almost 10 months out, the immediate priority will be getting him fully integrated back into training before pushing towards competitive minutes.
