Aston Villa receive major boost after key man's injury scare
The club have received positive news following scans.
Villa are confident John McGinn will be fit for the start of the Premier League season after sustaining a knee injury.
The Scotland international was forced off during the second half of Tuesday’s 3-1 friendly win over Pathum United in Bangkok having landed awkwardly on his left knee.
Scan results have now confirmed there is no serious damage and there is an expectation McGinn will be ready for Villa’s opening match of the campaign, away at Brighton on August 23.
It remains possible the captain could miss next week’s European Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain, while he is unlikely to feature in Friday’s friendly against Bayern Munich in Hong Kong, the final match of Villa’s Far East tour.
Villa have also been assessing Alejandro Garnacho after the winger took a blow to the face during the win over Pathum.
The club’s new record signing, Johan Manzambi, is yet to meet up with the squad as he recovers from a knee injury sustained at the World Cup.
Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Emi Martinez, all of whom featured in the final weekend of the tournament last month, are due to report back at the start of next week.
It is not clear whether any of the trio will feature in the Super Cup, which takes place in Salzburg on Wednesday night.
