Now, another move could be coming, and Jones indicated where the team is most likely to look. That should not come as a surprise. The Cowboys completely overhauled their defense this offseason after the unit struggled badly in 2025. They added players such as Rashan Gary, Von Miller, Caleb Downs, and Cobie Durant, while also bringing in Christian Parker as defensive coordinator. Still, there are questions across the unit, particularly in the secondary and pass rush. The Cowboys also created additional financial flexibility by restructuring the contracts of DaRon Bland, Kenny Clark and Jake Ferguson. Jones acknowledged that the timing was deliberate, saying the moves left the Cowboys with serious room to make a trade right now. That could become important if a veteran suddenly hits the trade market. Jones has previously hinted that Dallas has held substantive discussions with another team, although he stopped short of suggesting a deal is imminent.
