Róisín Ní Riain narrowly missed out on a medal at the 2026 World Para Swimming Championships in Kocaeli, Turkey. The Limerick woman finished fourth in the 100m Breaststroke Final (SB13) in a time of 1:18.96, just eight-tenths off a podium finish. "I'm happy enough with that swim," she said. "I’ve had a pretty tough year, and I’ve been dealing with an injury for most of it. My goal was simply to make it to this competition. A few weeks and months ago, I didn’t think I would be here, so for me the goal was to get here, and anything that came after that was a bonus. To be able to put down a good time like that, I’m absolutely delighted." The 21-year-old had been the fourth-fastest qualifier into the final. Ní Riain, competing in the first of six events this week, headed into this morning's heat as the reigning European champion, having won gold at the 2024 edition of the championships in Madeira, Portugal. Meanwhile, Emersyn Scully finished sixth in the 100m Backstroke (S14) final, improving on the lifetime best she set in the morning heat. The New Ross swimmer, who is making her Ireland debut, clocked a time of 1:16.68 in the evening, after an impressive 1:16.72 in the morning heat. "I feel so good. I'm so happy to be here tonight.
