SEC Files Bombshell Lawsuit Against LSU, Details Below
In response to LSU’s plans to add players from NFL training camps to its main roster, the Southeastern Conference is preparing extreme measures.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports the SEC has filed a lawsuit seeking authority to expel LSU from the conference, alleging that Lane Kiffin and school authorities should be held accountable for trying to add professional players to the team. Despite this, it is unlikely that the conference will take such an extreme action. It is much more likely that it is being used as an example of how serious they are about enforcing rules.
“NEWS: The SEC filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU, Lane Kiffin and school officials on Tuesday, which seeks the authority for the SEC to expel LSU from the league.
The SEC is not expected to take such action, but the filing indicates the seriousness of the league as it attempts to affirm the legal right to enforce its own rules. That was the point of the original federal suit filed last week,” Thamel wrote on X.

There was some amusement among fans at the lengths the SEC went to stop LSU:
- “Can’t wait for LSU to join fellow independent Notre Dame with half an ACC schedule,” one user on X joked.
- “LSU might become the Notre Dame of the South and play Tulane, ULM, South Alabama, & maybe 2 ranked teams a year to get into the playoffs,” another quipped.
- “Kicking out their biggest brand is a choice,” wrote a third.
- “I heard Notre Dame is looking for a new rival after USC backed out on them? Let’s have LSU and ND play on rivalry weekend in the battle of independents. The loser receives The Brian Kelly Trophy.”
In spite of Thamel’s statement that the SEC doesn’t actually intend to kick LSU out of the league, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the SEC is leaning towards more extreme measures if the Tigers don’t following their guidlines soon.
This weekend, LSU hosts Louisiana Tech in a game they should easily win. After that, they will play Kiffin’s former Ole Miss team in Oxford, Mississippi.
