Kelani Jordan has spent weeks talking about how frustrated she is over not getting an NXT Women’s Championship match. On the August 11 episode of WWE NXT, she finally got what she wanted when champion Kendal Grey gave her a title opportunity and let her decide when and where the match would happen.
The match was confirmed after a promo segment involving Jordan, Grey and Kali Armstrong. Armstrong demanded that Grey come out and give her a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
Jordan then interrupted Armstrong. She reminded everyone that she had already pinned Armstrong in a number-one contender’s match. The referee did not count the fall at the time, but Jordan argued that it should still count when deciding who deserves the next title opportunity.

That was when Kendal Grey came out with WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair. Grey also had a clipboard with a contract. She reminded her that their previous meeting in the Underground did not go Jordan’s way. However, Grey admitted she knew Jordan would eventually show up and ask for another opportunity. This time, Grey had already found a solution.
Grey revealed that she had spoken with NXT GM Robert Stone and secured an open contract for Jordan. Instead of making Jordan compete in another contender’s match or tournament, Grey gave her full control of the opportunity.
Jordan only had to choose when and where she wanted the match.
Armstrong then asked when she would get her own title shot. Grey told her that she would get her opportunity after Jordan’s championship match.
At first, Jordan suggested having the match the following week, especially since Grey was not cleared to wrestle on the August 11 episode. But she changed her mind and said that she did not want her championship match to happen in front of the Orlando crowd. Instead, she wanted the biggest stage possible.
Jordan announced that she would challenge Grey for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Heatwave.
The segment then ended with even more chaos.
Armstrong was frustrated for being passed over and she tried to hit Sinclair but hit Grey instead, which led to a brawl.
The NXT Women’s Championship match is now officially set for August 30, 2026.
