Wolves legend backs Raul Jimenez to shine in the Championship
Raul Jimenez has been backed for more Wolves success.
Wolves legend John Richards has backed Raul Jimenez to light up the Championship this season.
Richards knows a thing or two about finding the back of the net, having scored 194 times for Wolves in his 485 appearances.
Jimenez, a fan favourite who has now made a heroic return, came off the bench against Port Vale on Friday to a huge reception from the Molineux crowd.
As Wolves kick off their 2026/27 Championship campaign against Blackburn this Friday, King John has no doubt that the Mexican will be an inspired signing.
"Very much so,” Richards said when asked if he believes Jimenez will do well in the Championship.
"With the players alongside him, with Andre, with Mane, they're supplying and just the positive nature of what's been said by the manager in as much as he's going to be attacking, exciting football. That will suit Jimenez.
"If you bring people like Jimenez into your team, you have to play to his strengths. It's as simple as that.
"I actually think that's going to suit some of the other players as well, playing alongside him. That style of play is what we need to see.
”It makes a difference from the supporters' point of view, that they've got a connection with the players.
"We've had it in the past with people like Neves, and we had it with Nuno himself as the manager. Jimenez is loved by all the fans, respected, and it gives everybody a boost.
"He'll be great around the town as well, without a doubt.”
Richards also hopes to see more attackers recruited before the transfer window closes, to help give Jimenez the service he will need.
"I'm old-fashioned, I still like a winger to get that ball into the box for the strikers,” he said.
"With the strikers we've got, the more times you get it in the box, the better.
”What I'd like to see, more crosses coming in, more wing type of play because that's what we watched in the World Cup. That's where a lot of chances were coming from, its the wide positions.
"You'd like to think that that's what the manager means when he's looking for a front-footed, aggressive brand of attacking football. "That goes hand-in-hand with the speed of an attack and having quality wide men.”
