On Tuesday, Stiggers departed joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an ambulance following a harrowing scene. Upon jogging off toward the sideline following a play, the cornerback passed out, according to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. Jets players gathered around Stiggers and appeared deeply concerned by what was unfolding. But the team’s staff burst into action when it mattered; Stiggers was given an IV before he was taken off the field on a stretcher and loaded into the back of an ambulance. The 24-year-old was swiftly taken to a hospital, with Glenn confirming that he was conscious. The Jets have since released an update on Stiggers’ health, writing: “Qwan’tez Stiggers has been released from the hospital and is home recovering.” Practice was halted for several minutes to ensure Stiggers was properly assessed and addressed, and Glenn was delighted with his staff's response. “Our guys did a hell of a job, just like most medical staffs around this league do in situations like that,” Glenn told reporters. “And they took the necessary steps just to make sure that we do everything we can to be on board when it comes to those situations. “He was able to talk, and I want to make sure that I go and see him after this. Just to make sure I’m good with everything. He appeared in 14 games as a rookie, recording eight tackles, before making 15 appearances last season, registering 27 tackles, three passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. Stiggers has enjoyed a remarkable rise all the way to the NFL. Rather than playing in college football and going down the traditional route, Stiggers enjoyed stints in Fan Controlled Football and in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts before declaring for the draft in 2024. Stiggers was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie and an East All-Star in 2023, paving the way for his draft selection. However, he entered the 2026 offseason with a chance to compete for the starting role after Sauce Gardner’s blockbuster trade to the Indianapolis Colts last season. The Jets listed Stiggers as the primary backup to Brandon Stephens, who started 16 games for the AFC East franchise last season, on their first unofficial depth chart for the 2026 campaign. New York hosts Tampa Bay in their first preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 13.
