Aussie on collision course with ‘future of heavyweight boxing’... but a dangerous test awaits first — LIVE For the best part of two years, Moses Itauma has been hailed as the future of heavyweight boxing. The British prodigy has been fast-tracked to the top, drawing comparisons with the division’s greats and prompting many to declare him the sport’s next superstar. So when Teremoana Teremoana is asked whether he believes he can beat him, the six-foot-six Australian KO King simply nods. “I expect to be victorious,” Teremoana told Fox Sports Australia ahead of Wednesday night’s stacked Matchroom card on the Gold Coast that also featured the return of controversial star Michael Zerafa. “They say he (Itauma) is fast. They say he’s athletic. “So am I. “I’ve just got another 10 kilos and another two inches in height. Still only 21, the southpaw star will throw down with Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic in two weeks for the vacant IBF heavyweight title. Teremoana knows he still has some catching up to do. The Aussie Olympian has put together an impressive record of his own, ironing out every professional opponent he’s faced – most of them within three minutes. On Wednesday night, he faces DeAndre Savage in his first pro headliner on the Gold Coast, looking to take another step in his rise through the heavyweight ranks. And while Teremoana admits he and Itauma are currently at very different stages of their careers, he believes their paths will eventually cross. “We’re on two different levels at this point in time,” he said. “My goal is just to keep on taking care of whoever’s put in front of me, and then when that time comes, I expect to be victorious.” Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn sees it much the same way. For now, he concedes Itauma is operating in different territory to the big Aussie. But further down the track? Hearn believes Teremoana has everything required to beat him. “Moses is on a different level now,” Hearn told Fox Sports Australia. “He’s fought at a much higher level than Teremoana. “But I think those two will one day be battling it out for the belts. But we’ve got to get there first. He’s very talented. He’s fast. “But Teremoana’s got size, and if you’re unloading on this guy and he’s not going anywhere, and he’s walking you down, he’s busting you up with the jab… it’s a thrilling fight.” Itauma, though, can wait. First comes Savage on Wednesday night – and then, Teremoana hopes, an Australian heavyweight title shot he is quickly growing tired of asking for. “I’ve called for the Oz title shot so many times,” he said. “Im getting sick of doing that sort of stuff, so I’m leaving it all in the hands of my manager, promoters and Matchroom Boxing. “I’ll just take care of whoever is in front of me in the ring.” And how does he see that going? “I expect to destroy this guy,” he said. “I expect to dominate. “And on Wednesday we’re going to find out if this guy is real.” Wednesday’s card also features the return of controversial star Michael Zerafa in his first bout since a dramatic outing against Nikita Tszyu was cut short, while Jack Bowen and Jasmine ‘Jazzy’ Parr also feature on an intriguing card.
