UAAP: Ateneo dedicates Season 89 to Baterbonia, Adili with play as 'part of healing' The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles will dedicate their Season 89 campaign to the late Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, with the team saying that returning to the court is part of their healing process following the tragic drowning incident in June. The UAAP allowed Ateneo to compete in the upcoming season, with the Blue Eagles set to usher in a new system under new head coach Louie Alas. “Ever since the incident happened, the accident, that’s what was on their minds, to dedicate this tournament to the two guys, Divine and Bobet,” Alas said in a mix of English and Filipino in an interview. “So, I would like to thank also the UAAP family because playing is our therapy, it's part of healing. So thank you very much for allowing us to play.” Ateneo de Manila president Fr. Roberto Yap, SJ, echoed Alas’ sentiments. “It is good to see our Blue Eagles back on the court,” Yap said. “As they begin a new season, we accompany them with our prayers and support, standing behind all our student-athletes as One Ateneo. May Season 89 be a time of healing, growth, and renewed hope for our community.” Ateneo recently competed in the Pinoyliga Cup: The Big Dance as part of its preparations for the upcoming UAAP season. —JMB, GMA News
