Darby Allin is one of AEW’s most unique stars, and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley sees a little bit of his famous Cactus Jack character in him.
Allin has built a reputation for putting his body on the line for exhilirating moments. He regularly takes big bumps, attempts dangerous dives and seems willing to go through almost anything during a match. Because of that style, fans have often compared him to Foley.
However, Foley does not think Allin is simply trying to copy Cactus Jack.
Mick Foley praises Darby Allin for creating a hybrid style inspired by Cactus Jack
Speaking to TheSportster.com, Foley explained that Allin clearly took some inspiration from Cactus Jack but turned those ideas into something completely his own. Foley also pointed out that Allin has done things inside the ring that were never possible for him.
“I see Darby as someone who took the inspiration from Cactus Jack and added a whole lot of athleticism to it. He did things that I could have never done, and he’s created a hybrid style that borrows from me a little bit and from others who are far more athletic than me, and he’s made it his own in the same way that I basically took one part Bruiser Brody, one part Tommy Billington, and made it my own. He’s created a hybrid style that works for him and has made him one of the biggest stars of this new generation,” Foley said.
Allin has been with AEW since the company launched in 2019 and has become one of its biggest homegrown stars. He is a two-time TNT Champion and later won the AEW World Championship after returning to TV and defeating MJF.
Both he and Foley have even talked about the possibility of working together. Foley has previously called Allin a dream opponent, but Allin has said he would not want to wrestle Foley. Instead, Allin has expressed interest in teaming with the WWE Hall of Famer.
