Curtis Jones has explained what prompted him to leave Liverpool for Inter Milan in the summer transfer window. The Scouser completed a £30m move to the San Siro, where he has already made two substitute appearances. The transfer was met with a mixed reaction from Liverpool fans. Some thought it unwise to let him leave, some were happy about it, and some were just upset that he was sold without a replacement being sourced. He helped Inter come back from 2-0 down to beat Napoli 3-2 on Saturday evening and has since explained that Inter boss Chivu was a key reason for him making the move to Italy. He said: “There’s a reason I came here: the phone calls we had, how the team plays, his tactical ideas, and how he works every single day. “It’s the small things he says, things that might seem minor but end up having a massive impact. Plus, he has immense experience and played at the highest level himself. He’s managed the squad brilliantly. He’s ‘one of us,’ and to me, that’s fundamental.” With 70 minutes under his belt so far, Jones will hope to make his Champions League debut for Inter against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening. It remains to be seen if he will start or not. Jones added: “I just feel at home with the lads. Since the first day, they’ve been unbelievable and so I can just be myself. “Of course I’ve got a point to prove but I know that if I’m just myself, the lads will like me, the staff and the fans as well.” Jones was decent for Inter on his first outing for the Black and Blues, completing 31 of his 35 attempted passes (89%), including one key pass. He also won five duels and was fouled once, helping Chivu’s side alleviate pressure in a tense match. Jones’ style of play seems perfectly suited to Serie A, where technical quality is more important than athleticism. It’s a shame that his Liverpool career ended with the disappointment of Arne Slot’s final season, but he leaves having won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup and two League Cup winners’ medals.
