Former Baylor All-American, Super Bowl champion Thomas Everett meets with fans in Waco
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Baylor University football legend and Super Bowl champion Thomas Everett returned to Waco this weekend to meet with fans and sign autographs at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Everett, a Baylor and College Football Hall of Famer, was an All-American defensive back for the Bears in the late 1980s. He won the inaugural Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back in 1986 before being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1987 NFL Draft.
He later joined the Dallas Cowboys and helped them secure back-to-back Super Bowl championships (XXVII and XXVVIII).
“We had it here at Baylor, that kind of team, but (the Cowboys) had leaders at every position,” said Everett. “We had some characters and we had some high personalities on that team. But when it was time to kick off, we played for each other, and I think that really showed how we played. I think we could have won four in a row if we kept that team together and we kept everything together.”
Everett tells KWTX he enjoys coming back to Waco as much as possible.
“I spent a lot of time here and still have friends here,” Everett said. “We still come to games every now and then. It’s always fun coming back to the alma mater.”
Everett was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
