David Ornstein says that Liverpool’s January transfer window could be busier than normal as they look to make the signings they failed to make during the summer. The Athletic reporter has specifically mentioned that Liverpool could return for Brighton forward Yankuba Minteh, who was the subject of £50m and £60m bids from the Reds. Brighton, however, rejected both and demanded a £75m fee be paid in return for Minteh’s signature. Liverpool refused to meet their asking price for the 22-year-old. Minteh suffered a hip injury in August and underwent surgery, which was successful, but had he joined the Reds, he would have only been available for selection in late October. There was also interest in Crystal Palace star Ismaila Sarr, but a similar situation unfolded, and the Senegal international remained at Selhurst Park, which has reportedly affected him a lot. New Palace boss Pierre Sage says the 28-year-old will need some time to accept the failed transfer after Liverpool turned his head. Then there’s Lamine Camara, who has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool ahead of a potential move to Anfield in the winter window. He was scouted again by the Reds on Friday night, starring in AS Monaco’s 2-1 win over PSG at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Curtis Jones was sold to Inter Milan but wasn’t replaced, leaving Liverpool a bit light in midfield, although Trey Nyoni is being trusted with increased responsibility in the engine room. Signing a new right winger would be advisable too, but given that Liverpool kept Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike is set to return from injury in the next few months, the Reds are well-stocked in attack. The arrival of Bradley Barcola has increased the quality and depth available to Andoni Iraola in attack, so a new attacking signing isn’t that important anymore.
