Crystal Palace have ‘abruptly ended talks’ for Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima after the German side proved very difficult in negotiations.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Crystal Palace have turned their attention to other targets after being frustrated in their efforts for Matsima.
Augsburg difficulties
According to Tavolieri’s information, FC Augsburg proved too difficult in negotiations for the 24-year-old. They have, reportedly, demanded fees that Crystal Palace considered excessive for the defender.
As a result, Crystal Palace have ‘abruptly ended talks’. They already have a priority target lined up as a replacement for Matsima.
He had been targeted as a replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who appears destined to join Chelsea in a £50m deal this summer. Reports in England have insisted that deal is now in the final stages.
Crystal Palace appeared keen to get ahead of the issue of finding a replacement, targeting him last week. Sport Witness covered a report explaining that a report explaining that a €20m bid had been immediately rejected by Augsburg.
Crystal Palace go elsewhere
Now it seems there will no further negotiations on the matter. Crystal Palace have been left annoyed by Augsburg’s demands and do not intend to return to negotiations.
The question is who the mysterious alternative may be. With £50m burning in their pocket once Lacroix leaves, they may find other clubs acting in the same way as Augsburg.
Afterall, there is no reason to sell a player cheaply knowing that there is Premier League money on the table. That knowledge certainly won’t encourage sides around Europe to negotiate on the cheap, that’s for sure.
Palace may find that they need to spend big on a replacement for Lacroix this summer whether they like it or not. For now, though, it seems Augsburg’s demands have forced them to abandon the effort for Matsima and look elsewhere this summer.
