The NFL preseason has officially kicked off, and the regular season is looming on the horizon. However, as excited as fans may be to see their favorite players and teams take the field, ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter is warning fans to exercise some caution, as the league is currently reviewing and discussing levying punishments on some of its most recognizable names.
“There are some things going on behind closed doors that we don’t have full access to that are going to have a significant impact on this season depending on how these conversations go,” Schefter told The Pat McAfee Show’s Ty Schmit. “And what I’m talking about is the potential discipline for a handful of players that we believe will be handed down, whatever it is, by the start of the regular season. James Pearce had a disturbing domestic situation during the offseason, in which he is going to be suspended. He is going to be suspended.
“The question is how long. Is it six games? Is it longer? 8 games? 10 games? What is it going to be? A season? Don’t know how that’s going to come down, but James Pierce, I believe, is going to be suspended here. And it’s not just James Pearce. Cases that I believe are now being reviewed include that of the Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who could potentially face discipline for some of the offseason headlines that accompanied him and some of those incidents last year with another woman. What did and didn’t occur, we’ll leave that to the NFL to figure out what did and didn’t happen. But it’s possible that when the Niners and Rams play in Australia, it’s within the realm of options that Puka doesn’t play in that game.
Potential discipline looms over a group of NFL players, including Rams WR Puka Nacua and Packers RB Josh Jacobs.

“It’s also possible your team, the Green Bay Packers, are going to lose Josh Jacobs,” Schefter told Schmit. “That also still is under review and still a pending situation with the NFL. We saw the case with the Broncos’ standout defensive player Jonathan Cooper. That’s still under review. Alaric Jackson, the Rams offensive tackle, under review. Tyreek Hill, a free agent, also under review.
“I’ve been able to confirm that the cases still are under review. They still are being investigated. Discipline still is a potential option. And by the time the regular season opens, and probably sooner, we’ll have more clarity as it pertains to Puka Nacua, Josh Jacobs, James Pearce, Alaric Jackson, Jonathan Cooper, and maybe more.”
The NFL’s star players missing time is always tough, but it’s infinitely more important that the leauge holds its players accountable for their actions both on and off the field.
