Tony Romo is already known by many as a legend of the Dallas Cowboys, having played there for 13 seasons. He has recently become one of the most talked about media personalities after he got arrested due to driving a vehicle while being intoxicated. His arrest could become a turning point in his successful media career, which he has developed over the years after his retirement. Having worked as an analyst for CBS over the years, his future seems uncertain. Tony Romo faces uncertainty regarding CBS future Romo has been facing uncertainty regarding his broadcasting future following a July 23, 2026, arrest in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Deputies cited him for operating while intoxicated, possessing open intoxicants, unsafe passing, and refusing a chemical test after a traffic stop on Interstate 43. Romo entered a no-contest plea to the OWI charge on September 1, 2026. The other citations were dismissed. He has been penalized which include a six-month driver’s license revocation, an $834 fine due by early November, completion of an alcohol assessment program, and installation of an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns or operates for at least one year after his license is restored. More importantly, the plea agreement also contains a provision for a mandatory jail sentence if he receives another OWI-related conviction within the next decade. Romo has been placed on indefinite leave by CBS shortly after the arrest. John Ourand believes that is is very ‘unlikely’ for Romo to return to CBS. In an appearance on Puck’s The Powers That Be podcast, he said, “I think it’s highly unlikely, and by highly unlikely, [I mean] it’s 95 percent that he’s not back at CBS.” He added, “Tony Romo makes $18 million a year, so this could be a way to save some money. But if you read CBS’ statement, there’s going to be a negotiation. And the question is, what is the number … that would make Tony Romo sort of walk away without a fight? I think that’s where the negotiations almost certainly are going to head.” CBS has still not confirmed their position with Romo, and he has addressed his arrest and responsibility. However, one person believes that a potential return to the studio could be bad business. Emmanuel Acho against Tony Romo’s potential CBS return Emmanuel Acho talked about Romo’s potential return to CBS, and shared his opinion that it is bad idea. On his Speakeasy podcast, Acho said, “You’re sending Romo to the wolves if you send him to an audience of 25 million people. Let’s also be mindful of that. If you send him to an audience of 25 million people, CBS is going to trend for all of the wrong reasons every Sunday.” He added, “But the first time Romo accidentally slurs a word, then he’s not drunk. That’s all people are gonna say. The first time Romo calls a player by the wrong name or the wrong number, ‘He must be drunk again.’ It’s just gonna become a punch line.” It remains to be seen whether Tony Romo will return to the CBS studio or not.
