London Broncos’ Championship fixture with Swinton Lions yesterday ended with multiple red cards after a brawl broke out in the final minutes of action. Swinton, who were down 60-18 at this point, were aggressive in their defence, with ex-Wigan youngster Dylan Kelly-Duffy combining with prop forward Jordan Brown to tackle winger Will Jones. As Jones was getting up to play the ball, he thrashed his arms around, colliding with Brown, and that is when Swinton took matters into their own hands, with Kelly-Duffy holding Jones in whilst Brown threw punches at the speedster, who made the step up from reserve grade. As a result, it led to all 26 players coming together. The referee finally managed to separate both sides, but the action continued when Brown, who had received a bloody nose, went over to Jones after he had just received treatment and started throwing more punches. Jones retaliated before Swinton players came into the scuffle, and another 26-man brawl started yet again. Following the two sides finally separating, referee Adam Williams sent both Brown and Jones to the sin-bin, but given the number of players involved, it feels very lenient that they were the only two be given their marching orders. The Match Review Panel will review the footage and deliver their verdict this week, with a likely announcement coming on Friday. With Swinton finishing the regular season outside of the play-offs, it means that this fixture will be their last until 2027. London, meanwhile, will discover their opponents following the conclusion of today’s Championship play-off action.
