Everything indicates Celtic about to announce transfer for discounted fee

Celtic have reached an agreement to sign Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo for €6m (£5.2m), with an announcement now expected very soon.
That is covered in Monday’s print edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo, which brings an important update on a transfer that has been moving quickly towards completion.
The newspaper covers the situation because Hassan’s former club Villarreal are set to benefit financially from his move to Glasgow. He gave his green light weeks ago and now everything points to a quick closure.
Celtic get significant discount
Real Oviedo had initially hoped to collect more than €10m (£8.7m) for Haissem Hassan this summer.
Those expectations have now changed. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports Celtic and the Spanish club have reached an agreement worth €6m (£5.2m).
That also provides some clarity after reports last week stated the Scottish champions had convinced Oviedo with an offer well below Hassan’s €12m (£10.4m) release clause.
The player’s contract situation played a big part in the reduction. Hassan is entering the final year of his deal, leaving Oviedo with less room to demand the kind of money they initially wanted.
Celtic therefore appear to have secured a considerable discount, both on the release clause and Oviedo’s original expectations.
Villarreal set for Celtic windfall
Haissem Hassan’s move will also provide a welcome boost for Villarreal. The La Liga club retained 40% of the winger’s rights when selling him to Real Oviedo for €1.2m (£1m) in 2024.
El Periódico Mediterráneo calculates Villarreal will now receive €2.4m (£2.1m) from the €6m (£5.2m) Celtic transfer.
That leaves another indication of how advanced everything is. The newspaper says all signs point towards the sale becoming official in the “coming hours”.
After the agreement between Celtic and Real Oviedo, there now appears to be very little left before Hassan’s move to Glasgow can finally be announced.
