LAHORE - Muhammad Shoaib produced a stirring comeback, while Mahin Aftab Qureshi and Muhammad Hassan Usmani emerged as prominent champions as the inaugural Meinhardt Grade A+ National Ranking Tennis Championships concluded at the PTF Tennis Complex. Shoaib recovered from a first-set setback to overcome Muzammil Murtaza 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the men’s singles final. After losing the opening set, Shoaib raised his intensity and control to dominate the next two sets and secure the national title. Mahin Aftab Qureshi delivered an emphatic performance in the ladies’ singles final, brushing aside Romaisa Malik 6-0, 6-0. She completed the tournament without allowing her opponent to settle and added the ladies’ doubles crown alongside Ushna Suhail. In the boys’ U-18 singles final, Muhammad Hassan Usmani defeated M. Haziq Aasim 7-6(2), 6-3 in a competitive encounter to claim the junior championship. The closing ceremony was attended by Meinhardt Pakistan Country Director Muhammad Yousaf Gandapur as chief guest and Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi as guest of honour. Also present were Meinhardt Pakistan directors Farhan Azad and Imran Younus, PTF Senior Executive Vice President Brig. Saleem Marwat, Secretary General Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail (Retd), Pakistan Sports Board Director Farman Khan and PTF Director Col. Gul Rehman, besides players, coaches, officials and tennis enthusiasts. The officials congratulated the champions and runners-up and appreciated the players for their competitive performances. The PTF leadership also thanked Meinhardt Pakistan and Gandapur for sponsoring the championship and contributing to the promotion and development of tennis in the country. The event also featured several age-group and senior categories. Shayan Afridi won the boys’ U-14 title, Hajra Suhail the girls’ U-14 crown, and Muhammad Ayan of Fatima Group the boys’ U-12 championship. Eman Shahbaz captured the girls’ U-12 title. In the senior categories, Aqeel Khan and Talha Waheed of Gas and Oil Pakistan Ltd (GO Petroleum) won the 40+ doubles title, while Rashid Ali and Israr Gul claimed the 50+ crown.
