Hearts to sell Alexandros Kyziridis in a £1.7m transfer deal Greek international winger poised to move to Turkey Hearts are poised to sell the Greek international winger Alexandros Kyziridis in a £1.7m transfer. The 25-year-old missed the 4-0 win over Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday after being told that a fee has been agreed with a Turkish club. He is expected to travel to finalise the move this week. The deal represents good business for Hearts for a player they signed for nothing just 12 months ago. Kyziridis arrived in Edinburgh as a free agent from the Slovakian club Zemplín Michalovce last summer. He agreed a three-year contract and quickly became a popular figure with the Tynecastle support with dribbling runs, shots, goals and assists. He played 42 games for Hearts last season, scoring six goals and claiming 11 assists. His form dipped during the second half of the campaign but Greek and Turkish clubs showed interest in signing him over the summer. Hearts have negotiated a €2m fee with an unnamed Turkish side as per their player trading model. Their policy is to sign players for little or no fee, develop them and then sell for a good sum, which they did last year when James Penrice joined Greek side AEK Athens for £2m. “We accepted a bid for Alex," confirmed new head coach Wouter Vrancken. “I think it's a good deal for him, for sure, but also for the club. “When he comes in for nothing and goes with a good bid. It's also a transfer window. When the transfer window is open, it's part of football. But people showed today that they are ready to fill up this gap.” The Gorgie club’s data-based recruitment partner had already helped bring in potential replacements for Kyziridis on the left flank. Rogers Mato arrived in January and Calvin Miller joined in June. Miller has become a regular in the side so far this season under the new head coach. There is also strong transfer interest in Hearts’ Portuguese forward, Claudio Braga, who could also depart Tynecastle before the transfer window closes on September 3. English side Ipswich Town, French club Lyon and Turkish side Trabzonspor are all among his suitors. Kyziridis’ form in Scotland earned him his first senior international cap for his country at the end of last season. He came on as a 62nd-minute substitute for Georgios Masouras during Greece’s 1-0 friendly defeat by Italy at Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion in June. Afterwards, the player explained that he had enjoyed a prosperous 12 months both professionally and personally. “It’s been a very good season for me. My baby was born, the team (Hearts) did very well, I was called up to the national team,” he said. “We didn’t win the championship in the last game, but everything is a lesson in life and we continue.” Asked how he felt about the game against Italy, Kyziridis said: “Mixed. Definitely happy to have made my first appearance with the national team, but we lost and I can’t be 100 per cent happy, but that’s life, that’s football and we move on. Okay, we are trying things out. I think that in the second half we deserved more from the game, but that’s how it is when you don’t score goals, the one goal you concede is enough to lose the game.”
