Celtic’s attacking rebuild is beginning to take shape, with Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh already through the door and Haissem Hassan now closing in on his move to Glasgow. Duran and Hogh have started Celtic’s opening two matches, but it was the Dane who stole the show at Kilmarnock on Sunday. Hogh struck a hat-trick in his first away appearance for the champions, and his performance was about more than the three goals. His movement caused Kilmarnock problems throughout and, with better fortune, he could have left Rugby Park with more. Duran is still searching for his first competitive Celtic goal after rattling the crossbar, having scored three times in as many friendlies before the serious stuff started. Now another attacking option is close. Haissem Hassan is expected to travel to the UK today, August 11, to complete the final steps of his £6 million move to Celtic. Add-ons could eventually take the overall package to around £8.5 million. Journalist Mark Hendry believes the prospect of Hassan joining Duran and Hogh in the Celtic attack will be “mouth-watering” for supporters. Writing for CeltsAreHere Extra Time, Hendry said: “The notion of having Camilo Duran on one flank and Haissem Hassan on the other when he finally makes the switch from Real Oviedo should be mouth-watering for fans as well as Hogh who will be ready to bang in the goals from every angle.” Hassan’s arrival would not signal the end of Celtic’s work in the market either. Hendry understands the club are actively working on reinforcements in three other positions, with Mika Baur and a left-back also part of the picture. “Just one or two more acquisitions beyond Hassan – Mika Baur and a left-back at least – will have Celts in a seriously strong position despite all the furore and frustration with the money-men off the field of play”, Hendry continued. “They’ll have to replace Engels and perhaps Alistair Johnston while an experienced goalkeeper is also on the list put forward by Martin O’Neill to his recruitment staff. I understand the club are actively working on all three positions even with the manager currently sidelined following a small hospital procedure.” That work could become more pressing depending on what happens with Engels and Johnston. Everton had reportedly cooled their interest in Johnston, although a Toffees scout was in attendance as Celtic won at Kilmarnock. Any movement involving Johnston or Engels would leave Celtic with another significant piece of business to complete, particularly with the Champions League play-off against LASK approaching. The immediate focus, though, is getting Hassan signed. The Egyptian winger has already caught the eye internationally, including with his World Cup performance against Argentina, and his arrival would give Celtic another dangerous option in attack. Hogh has made the quickest possible impression. Duran has shown flashes without yet getting his competitive goal; Hassan could be next through the door, while the recruitment work elsewhere in the squad continues.
