Shaun Maloney has provided another positive update on Martin O’Neill’s recovery, with the Celtic boss well enough to visit the team hotel before Sunday’s game against Kilmarnock. However, Maloney revealed before kick-off that the 74-year-old had still been involved in the build-up to the game. Speaking to Sky Sports, Maloney confirmed O’Neill had travelled to the team hotel and spoken to the players before the squad headed to Rugby Park. He said: “He’s doing better again, so he came to the team hotel, spoke to the players, but he just needs an extra few days. “But he’s good, he’s definitely improving.” That was another encouraging update after O’Neill was discharged from hospital earlier in the week. Maloney had already revealed on Friday that he had visited the Celtic boss and found him in much better spirits than he had been earlier in the week. The decision was still taken for O’Neill to miss the Kilmarnock game and give himself more time to recover. His visit to the team hotel, though, showed he remained involved with the squad even though he was not able to take his usual place in the dugout. Maloney and the rest of Celtic’s coaching staff took charge at Rugby Park in his absence. There is still no exact date for O’Neill’s full return, but Maloney’s latest comments suggest his recovery is continuing in the right direction.
