Following the departure of long-serving captain James Tavernier in the summer, the Glasgow giants have struggled to find a replacement at right-back, with Dujon Sterling, Ross McCrorie and Findlay Curtis all deployed in that position with little success in the opening fortnight of the new campaign. Various sources claimed that Rangers were exploring a deal for Aston Villa youngster Kosta Nedeljkovic, with the defender thought to be available for a transfer this summer after spending last season with RB Leipzig. However, a fresh report from journalist Santi Aouna now indicates the club are pressing forward with a deal for Siquet instead. According to the report, the one-cap Belgium international is Rangers’ ‘priority’ target for the right-back position, and the club have launched an official offer for the defender thought to be in the region of £3million. A regular starter in Ivan Leko’s side last season, Siquet featured in 42 games during the 2025/2026 season as the club won the Belgian Pro League by four clear points. However, after being left out of the starting XI for last week’s 3-0 pre-season win over Kortrijk, speculation over an exit intensified, with sections of the Belgian media believing the door to an exit had been potentially opened following his omission. Speaking to Rangers shareholders on Monday, chairman Andrew Cavenagh has already confirmed the club would remain active in the final weeks of the transfer window, with three to five more signings expected before the transfer window closes, saying: “There's certainly work to be done. I don't like putting a number on it but certainly I'd hope three to five more players are coming in and a number will possibly go out. When we came in around a year ago, our ambition was sustained winning and winning sustainably.” A former teammate of current Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin during the pair’s time at Standard Liege, the duo both came through the youth ranks at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium and broke into the first team around the same time. They played 45 matches together as teammates, before the Belgian side allowed Siquet to leave to sign for SC Freiburg during the 2022 winter transfer window. Compared to 34-cap England international Trent Alexander-Arnold by Total Football Analysis in 2019, who claimed Siquet had “certain similarities” to the Real Madrid man’s ability in the attacking areas of the pitch, stating he had a “strong ability to progress the ball forward effectively on the right side of the pitch” and was adept at long diagonal switches.
