Rangers have stepped up their interest in Club Brugge right-back Hugo Siquet, with an initial offer now submitted. Foot Mercato report that Rangers have gone from monitoring the 24-year-old to making an initial bid for the defender. Rangers submit bid The website explains that following a report earlier this week that Rangers were monitoring Hugo Siquet with a view to strengthening their right-back position, now they’ve submitted a bid. The Scottish giants have now ‘taken action’ by submitting an initial offer to the Belgian champions. FM report that Derek McInnes’ side have taken note of the defender’s performances at Brugge, where he’s become a reliable fixture in their starting XI. They are just one of several European clubs who are keen to sign Siquet. There is no mention of the nature of the offer that Rangers have made. Siquet, though, is tied to a deal until 2028 so there is no pressure on Brugge to make a sale at this point. The defender is currently valued around £2.2m so that will at least be the starting point for any Rangers bid. Right-back wanted Rangers currently have two right-back options in the squad, in Ross McCrorie and Dujon Sterling, but are clearly not happy with either option. Reports over the last few months have indicated that a new right-back is high on the agenda. And they appear to be determined to shop in Belgium too. Indeed, two months ago, the focus was very much on Westerlo’s Bryan Reynolds. But that potential deal now appears to have been abandoned and other targets focused on. Hugo Siquet is now at the top of that list. An initial bid is now on the table. Although it remains to be seen what the nature of that bid is.
