Liverpool could potentially strike a deal for Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr in the January transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. The Reds ended up having a quiet summer overall, with many supporters left unhappy at Mohamed Salah not being properly replaced on the right wing. Sarr was one of the players linked with a move to Liverpool in that respect, along with Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, but he ended up staying at Selhurst Park. But speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke claimed that the Senegal international could still become a Reds player in the near future, talking up a January transfer coming to fruition: “(A deal for Sarr) could be done (in January), possibly. Obviously, Liverpool did try to get him before the deadline but Palace weren’t willing to let him go. Sarr’s representatives have hit out at that and over why he wasn’t granted his wish of making that move to Anfield. “It was a big blow for Sarr to see that move fall down, and it’ll be key now for Palace to try and get him back onside and get him back performing to his best for them between now and the January window as well.” Can Liverpool do better than Ismaila Sarr on the right wing? Sarr has been a problem for Liverpool over the years, scoring seven times against them, so it is easy to see why their recruitment team could see him as a strong addition to the squad. Now, 28 years of age, he is a proven Premier League player who has brought a consistent stream of end product – he has 27 goals and 16 assists in the competition – while Jean-Louis Gasset has lauded him, saying: “He is going to become a very big player. He has speed and he is capable of keeping going and repeating his efforts. He just need to master his finishing, but unfortunately, we don’t have time to work on that. He is an extraordinary little guy.” Liverpool need to be looking at a higher calibre of player than Sarr, however, both in terms of quality and age, with the Reds requiring an elite right-sided option with his peak years still ahead of him.
