Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis has been linked with a move to Celtic and a new offer from the Hoops could be made soon.
Last week, Sport Witness covered Torino CEO Urbano Cairo’s comments about the Lithuanian’s future. He clarified that the player could leave, with the Italian side in need of sales.
This came after Gineitis’ agents told the Scottish press about Celtic’s first offer for the midfielder.
Now, the player is increasingly likely to depart but the Glasgow giants may have to rush.
Salzburg offering competition
Sky Italia report that Austrian side RB Salzburg are also keen on Gineitis. They have held discussions for his signature, with the outlet also confirming Celtic’s interest in the player.
CalcioNews24 go deeper into his possible move to Glasgow.
The outlet state Celtic offered Torino €7.5m three weeks ago. Their next offer can arrive in the ‘next few hours’, with the Italian side valuing the Lithuania international at between €12m and €13m.
While the gap between the first offer and Torino’s valuation slowed down the move, it hasn’t completely broken down.
Celtic’s next offer could go up to €10m and this is likely to bring the parties closer.
Our take: Hoops should hurry
Gvidas Gineitis is reliable from a technical standpoint. At 22, he can play anywhere in midfield and at Celtic, he will also play in Europe. It would present a natural next step and he will also compete for silverware with O’Neill’s side.
Since Gineitis came through Torino’s youth academy, anything they earn goes down as a capital gain. So Celtic should accelerate the signing quickly and beat Salzburg.
