Huddersfield Town boss Martin Drury insists his side have “done a lot of work across the summer” on set plays. The Terriers took the lead against Preston North End in their Carabao Cup tie at the weekend from a free-kick, with heading home from Lasse Sorensen’s delivery. Drury has highlighted the importance of set-pieces for his side this season, with Town getting their League One campaign underway on Saturday at home to AFC Wimbledon. “I think as we know in League One, set plays are a major part of it, so we wanted to improve that, we’ve done a lot of work across the summer on that,” the head coach told HTTV. “I think the staff, in Jon (Stead) and Dale (Tonge) and Alan (Knill), I think they’ve done brilliant, brilliant stuff with that across pre-season. We’ve looked a threat from a lot of set plays, and we’ve defended set plays well. “If you look at the amount of times we’ve had to do that today, in terms of long throw-ins, free-kicks, corners, I thought Jack Whatmough was excellent in terms of dealing with that, I thought Balker was excellent, I thought Matty (Young) in goal came for things when he needed to come for things, he punched things, he caught things, I thought they were excellent. “Then the one moment that you don’t get that right against a Championship team, and you give them a chance, they take that chance, and then you end up drawing the game 1-1 when you should’ve won the game.” Four summer signings made their Town debuts in Saturday’s encounter, with Young, Derensili Sanches Fernandes and Ashley Fletcher handed their first starts, while Ibane Bowat was a late substitute. On the new recruits, Drury added: “They’re building on minutes, and they’re building relationships with other players. “Again I thought they showed flashes of their qualities that they have, and then learning how we want to play, and learning about English football, Sanches in particular. “I felt they were building again on the things that they’ve done over recent weeks, and I thought there were some decent performances in there that we’ll look to improve and develop as we m
