Done deal: Portsmouth seal sensational Fratton Park homecoming for Hull City winger Abu Kamara in £2.5m deal
Abu Kamara has become Pompey’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
Abu Kamara has finally completed his Pompey homecoming.
The Blues have announced they have completed the permanent capture of the 23-year-old, two years after the conclusion of his brilliant Fratton Park loan stay.
Although the actual fee has not been disclosed, it’s understood John Mousinho’s men have paid Hull City £2.5m to land the winger in the latest statement of intent from owners Tornante this summer.
Kamara has penned a three-year contract on the south coast in a deal which runs until 2029.
The former Norwich City man becomes the seventh new addition at PO4 during the window, joining alongside Odin Bailey, Eoin Kenny, Rocco Shein, Marko Milovanovic, Daniel Bielica and Luke Brooke-Smith.
Pompey finally complete Abu Kamara capture
Pompey have been long-term admirers of Kamara following his outstanding 2023-24 loan stay.
The ex-England youth international was instrumental in the Blues’ League One title-winning campaign, netting 10 goals and registering 11 assists in all competitions.
Mousinho’s men looked to land the winger on a permanent basis that summer before Hull City flexed their financial muscles to secure his services in a £3.5m deal from Norwich, which also included £1m in add ons.
However, Kamara endured a tough stint at the MKM Stadium, scoring five goals in 40 appearances before being shipped off to Getafe at the start of last season.
But following the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League, the exciting wide man was not part of Sergej Jakirovic’s plans, with Hull subsequently sanctioning a departure just two years into his four-year deal.
Pompey fended off reported interest from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic to land the Fratton favourite, who is likely to be available for this Saturday’s opener against QPR at Fratton Park.
