Pompey were yesterday boosted as Abu Kamara completed his Fratton homecoming, with his £2.5m move from Hull City completed. Kamara looks likely to go straight into Mousinho’s starting XI for the Championship curtain-raiser at PO4, with excitement growing ahead of that clash. Where he is deployed is an interesting debate, with the 23-year-old largely operating down the right flank - a role which would leave Segečić free to move inside. Teenager Luke Brooke-Smith was used on the left at West Ham on Saturday, but Kamara switching flanks could add more experience into Mousinho’s side. There’s also the likely arrival of Chelsea teenager Ryan Kavuma-McQueen to consider. A Kamara switch would likely mean Segečić continuing down the right flank, with Ebou Adams, Odin Bailey and John Swift considerations to fill the No10 position. That is the position the Croatian feels he’s most effective, but Mousinho;s argument is the 22-year-old can find the positions to damage sides from the right. That was seen amid his flying form at the end of last season, while Segečić opened his goal account when operating from the right at London Stadium. Mousinho said: ‘Segs doesn’t care where he plays. He wants to play football, he wants to score goals, he wants to be involved and he wants to win games. ‘They are amazing attributes to have as a player and brilliant for me to coach. ‘The useful thing for me was we played Segs out on the right last year and, particularly towards the end of the season, he really found his rhythm there. ‘He scored a hat-trick at Stoke and he scored again against Birmingham. ‘So I think that’s proved we can get him into goalscoring positions from that right-hand side as well. ‘I think we just have to work out a slightly different way of playing as a side. That’s what I think we can do. ‘I don’t think we’re asking Segs to go and hug the touchline, as we may for a traditional winger. ‘So we probably, with that, need to complement him with a full-back who gets around the outside. ‘We want to see Segs as close to goal as possible. ‘We’re seeing him find pockets of space and put himself in some very good positions - that’s what we’re after.’ Segečić acknowledged the work Pompey did last season to allow him to cause damage from the ‘No10 pocket’, while stating that’s the position he feels he can cause the most damage from. He told The News last month: ‘Last season I feel like we wanted to make it work, where I was playing off the right but I could still get in those areas. ‘I was able to get in that No10 pocket, that’s where I scored a lot of goals for Sydney FC a couple of years ago. ‘I’m now adapting here and making it work, but it’s where I scored all of my goals from at the end of last season. ‘I feel like that’s where I’m most effective and now it’s just about how can I carry on being that effective? How can I be that effective as a No10?’
