Our first fixture of the 2026/2027 EFL League One season, is almost upon us. Just a matter of days to go. It is a season for which we have high hopes, could, under the astute leadership of Jack Wilshere, we earn an automatic promotion place and a return to the EFL Championship, I certainly hope so. Bestowed upon us, for an opening fixture, is a trip down the M1 – M25 – M4 to take on Reading at what is now known as the Select Car Leasing Stadium, is, with Power Court being developed the kind of sponsorship route the Hatters may venture down? As is the norm, ahead of most games, I will be running an update on our popular ‘They Played for Both’ series. Delving deep I have come up with the following starting XI, which, I hope, contains some very familiar names: Goalkeeper – Alan Judge Defender – Jack Stacey Defender – Tom Holmes Defender – Matthew Upson Defender – Gabe Osho Midfield – Graham French Midfield – Lawson D’Ath Midfield – Jacob Brown Forward – Tony Thorpe Forward – Kerry Dixon Forward – Jack Marriott Substitute – Sean Evers A sound goalkeeper, a decent back four, a wonderful maverick in midfield and a front three that are certainly capable of scoring goals, what we’d give to see Graham French in action again. But in compiling the above list, there were also other names I came across: - Taylan Harris - Tom Ince - Lee Nogan - Ben Roberts - Chris Martin - Sean Long - Johnny Mullins - Andre Boucard - Lee Nogan The big question being is whether you are of the opinion any of those listed, as others, deserve inclusion in the starting XI.
