MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe said he, “didn’t fully do what I could’ as he finished third in the Italian Sprint Race on Saturday. After a strong Sprint Race start, where he put early pressure on the pole-sitter John Bennett fighting for the lead, Goethe lost second place to Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak who took advantage and slotted ahead of the 21 year old at the first chicane. On Lap 2, Goethe lost third place to Dürksen then to Martinius Stenshorne leaving him P5. Reflecting on this, Goethe said that: ‘I put myself in some bad positions where I had to defend and lost a couple of positions.’ After Rafa Câmara spun and triggered a first Safety Car, a slight error through Ascari meant that Goethe was under pressure and lost P4 to Stenshorne. Goethe fought back, and on Lap 6 using DRS he was back ahead into Turn 1 for P3. He held onto the podium position throughout the late Safety Car restart, crossing the line third. Speaking to InsideF2’s Jenny Craig in today’s press conference, Goethe said that he has, ‘high hopes and high expectations going into the Feature Race tomorrow’, where ‘you can gain a lot of positions’. Goethe said strategy may play a key part in the Feature Race, with ‘pitstops, different strategy, in lap out laps’ that could create, ‘a bunch more opportunities’. ‘At Monza if you’re on the front foot with momentum, you can really gain so many positions’.
