Boro were drawn to take on the League One opponent on Monday evening, having progressed from the first round thanks to a victory over Wrexham. For Boro, it will be an opportunity for revenge against Rovers, who inflicted the first defeat of Rob Edwards’ time at the club in the first round of last season’s competition. They won 4-0 at the Riverside. This time, the game will be played at the Club Doncaster Sports Village after Grant McCann’s side beat Stockport on penalties over the weekend. The exact date of the game is to be confirmed, but will take place on either Tuesday, August 25 or Wednesday, August 26. For Boro, that comes in between their first away game of the season at Blackburn Rovers, and the home game against West Brom, which has been brought forward to Saturday 12.30pm after being selected by Sky for live coverage.
