Portsmouth new-boy Abu Kamara called a 'class act' after kind offer to fan following Hull City move
Abu Kamara is finally back at Pompey - and he’s already demonstrating his appreciation
Just when you thought Abu Kamara couldn’t go up more in Pompey fans’ estimations, he only goes and gives the Fratton faithful even more reasons to love him.
The forward helped make many supporters’ transfer window wishes come true when he rejoined the Blues on a permanent deal from Hull City on Monday.
After establishing himself as a firm favourite among the PO4 patrons following a loan stint in 2023-24 that was accompanied by League One winners’ medal, the £2.5m signing returned to the club where he has been idolised ever since by penning a three-year deal with Pompey.
The 23-year-old’s emotional homecoming is expected to be completed when he takes the field on Saturday when the Blues play host to QPR on the opening day of the new Championship campaign.
847 days will have passed since his last PO4 appearances as a Pompey player against Wigan on April 20, 2024. And no doubt there’ll be many fans preparing to celebrate the occasion by donning their old ‘Kamara’ shirts as they pay homage to the forward’s return.
One fan in attendance, though, will know there’ll be a more personal touch to his shirt on the day - and for the remainder of the season.
That’s after the Blues’ new-boy responded to a post uploaded by the supporter on X.
The individual, known as @Ev1npower22 on the social media platform, asked Pompey not to charge anyone who wanted to get Kamara’s name printed on their shirt for the day.
The invite appears not to have been spotted by the club.
But the Blues’ latest signing did, resulting in him reaching out with the offer to pay for @Ev1npower22’s visit to the merchandise store and the name printing department.
Writing on X, Kamara posted: ‘I’ve got you (with a shaking hands emoji) look at your messages’.
By our calculations, getting ‘Kamara’ printed onto a shirt with the number 25 - his squad number in 2023-24 - would cost £18.95.
That’s not much when all things are considered. However, it remains a lovely act of kindness by the player who is clearly overjoyed by his Fratton Park return and has been checking out social media to see the reaction to his move.
On that note, he’ll not be disappointed, with the Fratton faithful united in delight with his PO4 return.
And he’ll be even more pleased with the reaction to his good deed.
Reacting to his post, JC Photography said: ‘Lovely guy and class act!’, a sentiment that was shared by @etjr200231989, who wrote: ‘Such a class act’.
@hm2524263 added: ‘Love you, Abu’, while @CamGpfc joked: ‘Class act. Do you stretch to being a best man at a wedding also?’
