Vast majority of Buckeye fans think 10-2 would be a successful 2026 regular season Given how difficult the Buckeyes’ schedule is this season, most Buckeye fans told LGHL that if OSU goes 10-2, that would be a success. In a couple of hours, the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes will open their 2026-27 college football season by welcoming in the Ball State Cardinals to Ohio Stadium. But before the action on the field gets underway, we have some business to attend to. Earlier this week, we asked Buckeye Nation a couple of questions in our weekly fan survey. The first question was about what the floor would be to consider this season a success for the top-ranked Buckeyes. The second was about the margin of victory for today’s game against the Fighting David Lettermans. We have those results below, but in addition, we also have the results of a larger college football survey done by our overlords at SB Nation, which asked fans to make their pick for the College Football Playoff National Champion. Question 1: What do you consider a successful regular season for Ohio State? In our full-season predictions article, I went on the record saying that I think the Buckeyes will finish the regular season with an impressive 11-1 mark, considering how imposing their schedule is this year. However, I also picked OSU to beat TTUN, 34-10, so the 11-1 option in the survey was completely off the table for me. So, given the specific scenarios that we included in the survey, I guess that I would go 10-2, with the losses coming to some combination of Indiana, Oregon, Texas, and USC. That would automatically mean that Ohio State won The Game, and almost certainly would guarantee that they made the College Football Playoff; so I would definitely count that as a success, and it seems like a vast majority of respondents agreed. Of course, I will still be rooting for the Buckeyes to go undefeated and probably won’t pick them to lose an individual game, but if they go 10-2 against this schedule with a win over the Mitten State Skunk Wessels, I would be quite pleased with that result. Question 2: What do you think the margin of victory will be against Ball State? Land-Grant Holy Land What do you think the margin of victory will be against Ball State? In our Ball State game predictions article, I took the Buckeyes to win this afternoon 55-0. So, that would put me in the 50-64 point segment that 13% of our respondents were in. I realize that is a lot of points, especially for a team that has purposely limited its offensive plays in recent seasons. But they are playing Ball State, and I really think that this could be the best offense in Ryan Day’s tenure, so I’m putting my predictions where my blogs are and going big. National Question: Who will win the College Football Playoff National Championship? With all due respect to Marcus Freeman (and the entire Oregon and Texas programs) they are obviously national title contenders, but I am going to need to see proof of concept before I am ever picking those teams to win a national title. They are always exceptionally hyped teams in the preseason (as is Ohio State), but they never seem capable of following through. So, while they very well could go out and look dominant this regular season — and OSU will play two of them — I just can’t force myself to actually pick one of those teams, having seen how much they have underachieved year in and year out.
