Former frontman delivers message after turning down West Brom deal for new club The Nigerian striker sealed a return to France earlier this month and has penned a note to Baggies fans. Former Albion striker Josh Maja has thanked supporters for their backing throughout his time at the club - having turned down a new deal to move on this summer. The 27-year-old completed a move to France Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre earlier in August after his contract at The Hawthorns expired earlier in the summer. Boss James Morrison was keen on retaining the frontman’s services and Albion offered a new deal but the it became apparent Maja’s future lay elsewhere. Maja had mixed fortunes at The Hawthorns, where he scored 19 goals in 81 appearances in three seasons - including one as top scorer - but endured torrid luck with injury. A special shout out to the fans, your support through the highs and lows was incredible and I’ll always be grateful. “It was a privilege to wear this badge, the memories will last forever. “I wish everyone associated with the club all the best. Once a Baggie, always a Baggie.” Former Fulham and Sunderland striker Maja returns to France, from where he arrived at Albion from Ligue 2 side Bordeaux as a free transfer in 2023. He endured two serious ankle injuries with the club, one of which cut short a season of such promise, where he fired 12 goals by the new year. Maja was used sparingly last season but did return as a regular late on under Morrison and fired three vital goals in the push to Championship survival.
