Star man says pre-season 'suffering' has primed West Brom for Championship challenge The Baggies start their league campaign at Norwich on Saturday. Jimmy-Jay Morgan reckons “suffering” together through a tough pre-season has brought Albion’s players closer and left them primed to attack the Championship. The Baggies visit Norwich on Saturday for their first league fixture and Morgan, who will make his debut in the second tier, knows the intensity levels will rise significantly from last weekend’s Carabao Cup opener at League Two Rotherham. But the 20-year-old believes the hard work put in on the training ground means Albion are heading to Carrow Road in the best possible shape. Boss James Morrison claims to have pushed his players as hard as possible in preparing for the new campaign. Morgan, one of six summer signings so far, says that has helped build strong bonds in the squad. “We are all super close,” he said. “We have been through some tough, tough training sessions in the last seven weeks. “We are a tight-knit group and I think that is translating on to the pitch. “We had double sessions, particularly in Portugal where it was 30 degrees out on the pitch and we would do a long training session, then just running in the afternoon. “There is never too much motivation for running without a football but we got through it and we are in a really good place for it. “Has it brought us closer together? 100 per cent. We have suffered a lot but I think it has given us the opportunity to spend time together off the pitch, then days off and it has brought us closer. “It has built a massive togetherness in the group.” Morgan, who joined the Baggies from Chelsea for an initial £1.3million, is aiming to pick up where he left off at Rotherham after netting twice on his competitive debut. “I can’t wait for Saturday,” he said. “It is something I have had my eye on. I am taking it game-by-game. I got my two goals last weekend and hopefully at Norwich it can be the same again.”
